Best practice has been developed through many years experience in working with businesses both in the UK and internationally.

In areas such as public sector procurement the group includes specialists working with both government and business, indeed we include ex public sector staff in our team.

The PWL team has developed through a demand for greater inter-connectivity of individual disciplines and expertise in delivering high quality business development solutions.

Bringing together like-minded individuals committed to a common path has created a strong synergy and a robust delivery capability.

Members of the team have direct experience at all levels of the economy, from micro business, through SMEs to large corporate and all levels of local, regional and national government.

Deb Sen M.Eng MBA

Deb Sen

Masters in Mechanical Engineering (4 year course) from Imperial College, London, and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from London Business School, specialising in Marketing.

Worked 8 years for BICC and 6 years for BT, in various marketing posts including: product management, corporate intelligence, international business planning and global market research.

Set up his first marketing consultancy business in 1992. Deb and the senior team grew this business to a turnover of over £1.5 million, employing over 30 people.

Debasish then built up a Call Centre consultancy practice, initially running his own call centre, but latterly managing successful telephone based campaigns from outsourced call centres.

Tim Colman BSc(Hons) IIB Accredited

Tim Colman

Has an honours degree in engineering and has spent 30 years working in global organisations living and working both in the UK and abroad. He has had responsibility within a large corporate for the Asian-Pacific market. He has worked at Director level for the Swatch group and in 2003 established his own management consultancy. Tim has thirty years of successful bid writing under his belt and is a SFEDI Ambassador.

A graduate in design, initially  worked in Germany then in the UK in architectural and interior design practices. Became Managing Director of a manufacturing company. Owned advertising agency in London; moved his creative skills towards more generic business development. Has worked  with several EU companies establishing businesses in the UK, five went to multi-million pound turnover and gained international awards. Took over the management of a farm park in a public/private sector arrangement. He now concentrates on helping the small and micro business sectors develop. He has significant experience in the public affairs arena through the Federation of Small Businesses, working from local to European levels. He was Vice-Chairman of the Southeast Regional Assembly. He is a Fellow of the RSA and one of the founder members of the Institute for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.

Hilda Stearn  BA(Hons);  PGDPM; CFCIPD, ACIPS, Accredited FACET5 user

Hilda Stearn

Hilda is passionate about helping individuals and teams to bring out the best in each other.  Her post-graduate personnel management studies drew Hilda towards training & development and she began her career working for the only UK-owned International Insurance Brokers in the City of London. From there she moved into the public sector and has worked with a diverse range of organisations including central government departments and local authorities delivering procurement-related training   as well as leadership and management programmes. 

Bringing together effective teams is second nature to Hilda:  she enjoys working in and with teams – the achievements are so rewarding for everyone.  Collaborative working is key to her work: whether with a micro business, Third Sector organisation or public sector client. Mutual understanding, clarity of purpose and measurable success are critical success factors for her. 

Hilda is a SFEDI Ambassador as well as being an active campaigner for small business through her voluntary work for the leading small business organisation, the Federation of Small Business.

A business management professional, Ian has lived and worked around the world. With an MBA, Ian has worked at Director in a number of major corporations overseeing sales teams and business transformation programmes. He has a strong track record in business turnarounds.

A Human Resource professional experienced in all aspects of HR and Learning and Development Management to board level. Her experience and expertise stems from working in hi-tech electronics, manufacturing and research organisations of all sizes.

Robert Hardy

ROBERT HARDY

Robert Hardy left Kent County Council in May 2010. He has held senior management roles in local government for over 20 years, ranging from urban regeneration to social care, from corporate performance to community development.

Robert has an established track record in promoting innovation, improving organisational performance, involving residents and service users, using partnership to drive change and, in all of this, working with senior managers and politicians to challenge 'the way we do things round here'.

He is a strategic thinker but grounded in the practical experience of service delivery: from CAA to LAA; from engagement to empowerment and from sustainable community strategies to Total Place.

AUDREY SHANKS

Audrey is a Management Consultant specialising in leadership and management development, training and executive coaching.  Having held Board Director’s roles with international organisations, she brings understanding and professional credibility when working with senior management.  She’s designed and led many international large scale development programmes, including a global bank’s bespoke Transformational Customer Service and Change Management Programme, which was recognised as a European first, through introducing and integrating a portfolio of corporate training DVDs. 

Audrey’s key interest is helping organisations achieve customer–centred change. She’s also highly respected for her personal warmth, openness and integrity in client relationships, which creates a culture of trust and true partnership working. Through blending a passion for learning, with clear and intuitive understanding of how to motivate and encourage people, she inspires them to fulfil their potential and achieve organisational objectives.

Charles Critchley MBCI
CHARLES CRITCHLEY

With an engineering background, Charles moved into the world of IT management as the challenges of Y2K approached. Working for a large multinational corporate, Charles accumulated a wealth of experience both as a consultant to the Senior Leadership Team in Europe and subsequently as a business partner within the Global IT function.

His experience spans IT solution delivery and support, change program management and business process engineering across the supply chain.
Charles achieved his MBCI in 2006, and is a member of the BSI’s prestigious Accredited Consultant Program (ACP). Since establishing the methodology which has successfully helped clients achieve Business Continuity Standard BS25999 accreditation, Charles has continued to develop further management systems including ISO 27001.

Julie Thomson
JULIET THOMSON

Julie started her career in retail management and as a ‘people person’ Julie works closely with our customers to ensure that we deliver tailored and effective business continuity solutions that they highly value.

She moved from retail to a number of senior roles in an international consumer goods corporation, including sales, marketing, customer management and finance positions.  Here she gained first hand experience of managing large scale changes, which impacted heavily in the areas of supply chain, finance and HR.  The experience and insights she gained in these projects led her to specialise in the area of risk and crisis management, and working in business continuity planning became the natural next step.

Neris Gallo MBI
NERIS GALLO

Neris specialises in assisting businesses write effective bids advising on the structure and format. She brings with her a very interesting background as a Lithuanian and fluent Russian speaker. Her business experience is built up through logistics and customer service coordination in a major Lithuanian food manufacturer and then in the UK as a business analyst for GlaxoSmithKline in London and more recently working for McNeil Ltd, a Johnson and Johnson company. Her roles have brought together marketing, research and analysis and the full spectrum of business promotion.

DAVID SEALL

A leader and coordinator of people, successful in achieving business performance by motivating others to achieve their maximum potential. A highly motivated and committed individual with significant change management ability backed up by project management experience at all levels. Extensive network of decision makers created while working in both the public and private sectors, corporate to SME, thus clearly possessing the necessary flexible and diplomatic approach to succeed with both.

He has significant experience in manufactiring and engineering sector and has worked closely with both public and private sectors.

Past Chief Executive of of the Engineering Employers Federation South with a wealth of experience in working across multi-disciplines in the southeast. David is a Council member of the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium, a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of World Traders.

DAVID HALL Starting his career as a Mechanical Engineer David worked in the MoD and general engineering sector for many years . Following Operational Management roles, he achieved an MBA at London University and moved into business systems  consultancy implementing ERP systems solutions within companies both in UK and Europe.  His “change management” skills has helped companies implement major changes to their business both in terms of systems applications and process change. David describes specialises in helping SMEs achieve ISO 9001 and 14001 standards. As a BSI registered ACP consultant, he assists companies in all sectors ranging from manufacturing through to construction, retail and recruitment.
Andy Bush BA(Hons), IRCA ISO9002 Lead Auditor, SROI Practitioner
ANDY BUSH

Andy a former CEO of a regional charity joined the PWL team in 2010 bringing with him an extensive background from executive management roles in the public, private and more recently third sector.

Based in the North of England, he comes with a proven business development background having spent 10 years supporting a broad range of UK and European organisations in the development of new projects, and the acquisition of new funding streams totalling €31 million. This work has included major projects in Germany, Ireland, Turkey, Italy and Portugal with a continued role as EU Projects Director of a Portuguese ICT company and as an Expert Evaluator for the EU Commission.

A trained SROI (Social Return on Investment) Practitioner this has been a key focus of recent work looking at the social, economic and environmental impacts of project delivery and financial investment in services and how this might be used in strategic planning. Other key areas of expertise include: Bid Development UK and EU Grants; Project Management and Evaluation; Change Management; Interim Strategic Support; Contract Development and Acquisition, Development Partnerships.

Liz Holford BSc(Hons) MBA

Liz Holford specialises in helping large public and private sector organisations to achieve social and economic sustainability in their operations, whilst ensuring value for money, through effective and innovative procurement and supply chain management - often meshing this to wider organisational activity and objectives around equality & diversity, environmental sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).  
In the last eight years, Liz has worked with over fifty large companies, thirty five local authorities, thousands of small and medium enterprises, various departments within UK central government and key stakeholders (e.g. Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, Equality and Human Rights Commission) to deliver business solutions that also achieve wider social and economic benefits. Liz has accepted invitations to present her work to audiences internationally, including global CEOs at the United Nations in New York. She is lead author of “The Handbook on Supplier Diversity in Europe”, published by Supplier Diversity Europe, CRÈME and MPG.
Liz has a background in complex commercial programme management in the entertainment industry, producing, selling and marketing theatre productions and movies. She has an Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Open University and a BSc(Hons) in Biology from Imperial College of Science & Technology, London, with a specialism in environmental biology.

ALEX PHILLIPS
ALEX PHILLIPS

As the skipper of the yacht Quadstone in the 2000 BT Global Challenge, known as The World's Toughest Yacht Race , she developed a group of amateurs into a high-performing team and led them to victory against the odds through some of the harshest conditions on the planet.

Her extensive ability and experience gained by working with amateur teams throughout her seventeen years at sea, has been readily transferred into the business world. It was a natural progression to move from high-profile yacht racing into the field of one-to-one coaching and training she is passionate about helping people achieve their dreams.

Leadership, motivation, performance management, communication skills,
presentation skills, team development, coaching skills, relationship management and time management, delivered through one-to-one coaching, workshops and small group training. Motivational speaking.
